remedial massage

A targeted form of soft-tissue massage, remedial massage works with your connective tissue, tendons, and muscles. Rather than following a fixed routine for every patient, a remedial session caters to your individual needs, focusing on the muscle groups or areas that are overworked or feel tight. We’ll discuss how you move through the day and your goals for the appointment.

My approach incorporates a movement-focused perspective alongside remedial massage. I’ll ask where you feel pain, but I also want to understand your daily routine and how you move to determine where that tension originates. Two people can suffer from the same tight shoulders for different reasons, and understanding whether it’s from over-training or being hunched over a desk informs the session.

New here? My companion guide explains what remedial massage involves and how it compares to other styles in more detail.

How Remedial Massage May Help

Many clients come to Rays Healing Touch to support their muscles and movement through remedial massage. The most common issues clients bring to me include:

  • Muscle tension and tightness – working on areas that feel tense, stubborn, or overworked.
  • Everyday stiffness and restricted movement – supporting greater comfort and ease of movement.
  • Muscle recovery after physical activity – ideal for active people who train a lot or do physically demanding work.
  • Mobility and flexibility – a movement-focused approach that can complement your home stretching and activity.
  • Work-related tension – focused on areas affected by long periods of sitting, desk-based work or repetitive tasks.

To get the best from your experience, it’s worth being upfront and honest about what massage is and isn’t. It is not a substitute for medical care. If you are dealing with severe, unusual, sudden, or persistent pain, you should see a health professional for a medical assessment. However, if you want to feel looser, improve mobility, and feel more comfortable, remedial massage can be a valuable self-care tool.

What To Expect in Your Session

If you have never been for a remedial massage, let me set your mind at ease by describing the typical session with me at Rays Healing Touch.

We Start With a Conversation

The first thing we do is have a conversation. I want to understand what you’d like to focus on, what your days look like, how you move, and any areas that feel tight or uncomfortable. This is where the session is shaped; the more I understand, the more useful the treatment.

The Treatment Is Tailored To You

The next step is to work on those tight or restricted muscle groups and determine which techniques are best suited to your needs. Sometimes, a session will require firm and focused work, while other times a gentler approach is more appropriate. It’s all about your body and your goals.

We Keep Talking Throughout

We will continue to communicate throughout the massage. If you feel uncomfortable or the pressure doesn’t feel right, just let me know. I’m also happy to divert attention elsewhere if the session uncovers another area that needs attention. Your feedback is what makes the therapy work, so never silently accept a massage that doesn’t feel right.

You Leave With Something To Take Away

Where it’s helpful, I’ll finish with some simple movement. I can also provide aftercare suggestions relevant to what we worked on, so the benefit of the session carries into your week.

Who I Work With

Remedial massage suits a wide range of people. These are the ones I see most often in Castle Hill.

Holding the same position over a desk all day can be a nightmare for your neck and shoulders and may contribute to headaches. If you notice tension building in your lower back, shoulders or neck from long hours at a desk, focused remedial massage can help.

If you work a physically demanding job, play sport regularly, or exercise often, your muscles work hard, taking on repeated loads. Remedial massage is a helpful way to take good care of your body between work, training, and recovery.

You don’t need to be an elite athlete to benefit from remedial massage. Parenting, working, and everyday life can contribute to muscle tension, and your session can be focused on wherever you feel it most.

How Remedial Massage Differs From a Relaxation Massage

Why Choose Rays Healing Touch

I’ve been practising massage since 2008 and hold a Diploma of Remedial Massage. My training has taken me to China to study under the tutelage of a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, and I have also furthered my learning under an experienced chiropractor. I am currently studying Certificates III and IV in Personal Training, which adds to the movement-focused side of my approach. To me, massage is about how your body moves rather than just how it feels on the table.

Qualifications are only part of the puzzle. Every session is an opportunity for me to listen and adapt to you and your body. Your first visit may look quite different from your second or third because the session is based on what you need at the time.

Rays Healing Touch operates by appointment only. I run a small, personal practice in Castle Hill, so when you book a session with me, that’s precisely who you’ll see.

Remedial Massage Pricing

Simple, transparent pricing — the same rates apply across my massage services:

$105

for 45 mins

$140

for 60 mins

$210

for 90 mins

Not sure which length suits you? A 45-minute session works well for a focused area, while 60 or 90 minutes gives us room to work more thoroughly or cover more of the body. We can talk it through when you book.

[Include only if confirmed with Ray:] Private health fund rebates may be available depending on your policy.
