Pregnancy Massage in Castle Hill
Pregnancy changes the way your body moves and feels, and as your baby grows, you may start to notice tired legs, aching hips, lower-back tension, and a greater need for rest and self-care.
At Rays Healing Touch in Castle Hill, I approach pregnancy massage with a personalised touch. I consider your areas of tension, comfort levels, stage of pregnancy, and any relevant health considerations to create a session that fits your needs. Pregnancy massage is not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and it’s important to note that it’s a complementary therapy rather than medical care. If you have concerns about your health or pregnancy, speak to your doctor before you book.
How Pregnancy Can Change the Way You Move

There is more to pregnancy than the gradual changes in your body shape and size. The further along you are, the more your centre of gravity shifts, making even simple everyday movements feel different, whether it’s getting out of bed or walking.
Pregnancy can also alter the way you sit, sleep, or stand as you do your best to accommodate your growing bump. These small changes put additional strain on your shoulders, hips, pelvis, and back. I consider those changes in pregnancy-focused massage. I will work with your comfort level and current movement patterns to adapt the session to your specific needs and stage of pregnancy.
What Pregnancy Massage May Help With
Everyone experiences pregnancy differently. While massage is not a appropriate in every situation, an adapted massage session can provide temporary relief from some common pregnancy discomforts, while also giving you time to relax.
- Lower-back tension: pregnancy-suitable techniques and positioning are used to target appropriate areas around the back and hips.
- Hip and pelvic-area muscular discomfort: pregnancy can contribute to tightness and pain around the hips, glutes, and surrounding areas, and pregnancy massage can address this without forcing anything.
- Neck and shoulder tension: altered sleeping positions, posture changes, desk work, housework, and everyday responsibilities can cause upper-body tension.
- Tired legs: tired legs are a common pregnancy complaint, so I take particular care when working on the legs during a pregnancy massage. You shouldn’t expect a deep-tissue approach.
- Tired feet and ankles: as relaxing and relieving as gentle massage can be for feet and legs, it’s important to seek medical care immediately if you experience sudden or significant swelling.
- General muscular tension: adapting pressure and positions can help address tension in areas such as the feet, calves, glutes, hips, back, and shoulders.
- Time to relax: pregnancy is demanding on the body, and dedicated time to stop, relax, and breathe is an important part of the overall experience.

How Pregnancy Massage Is Different
There’s more to pregnancy massage than working around a growing belly. Pregnancy also changes how I approach certain areas of the body and how you are positioned throughout treatment.
Positioning Comes First
Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, you may find lying flat on your back uncomfortable. I use semi-reclined, seated, and side-lying positioning, depending on your stage of pregnancy, to ensure you are comfortable.
Pressure Is Adapted
The pressure should reflect your comfort level and pregnancy stage, so it’s typically much gentler than remedial massage. I always adjust the pressure based on both my training and your feedback.
Some Areas Need Modification
Pregnancy massage is not a standard full-body routine. Not only is the abdomen avoided, but special care is also taken with the legs.
Your Feedback Matters
If you are in an uncomfortable position, need an extra pillow, require a break, or the pressure doesn’t feel right, tell me. I encourage regular communication throughout the session to ensure you get the most from it.
Pregnancy Massage Through Each Trimester
First Trimester
You may find yourself feeling more sensitive in the first trimester. Not only are you dealing with nausea and fatigue, but you may also notice headaches or other changes you would like to address. If you’re thinking about a first trimester massage, speak to your doctor or midwife before you book. You should also discuss any concerns or complications with them.
Second Trimester
The second trimester can bring a growing abdomen and more noticeable posture changes you may feel through your legs, glutes, hips, lower back, and shoulders. I can tailor your session to focus on your muscular comfort while ensuring you are in a comfortable, supported position.
Third Trimester
The third trimester is often when sleep becomes more difficult and finding a comfortable position to sit or lie in can be a challenge. This is when massage positioning is most important, and I will adjust whatever is necessary, so you’re supported and comfortable throughout your session.
What Happens During Your Pregnancy Massage
We Talk About Your Pregnancy
The session will start with a conversation about how far along you are, where your discomfort is, what type of pressure you prefer, what you’d like from the session, and any relevant health concerns you may have.
We Find a Comfortable Position
As your body changes, your positioning may need to change too. I use a range of supports, including pillows and yoga wedges, to maintain comfort and support, particularly when side-lying.
The Massage Is Adapted to You
If your main complaint is tension in the hips or lower back, I will likely pay extra attention to those areas. However, if you are just looking for a relaxing massage session, I can make adjustments for a gentler, whole-body experience. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to pregnancy massage.
I Check In with You
I keep the lines of communication open throughout the session. If you want more or less pressure, a position change, or additional support, all you need to do is ask, and I will be happy to accommodate you.

When to Speak with Your Doctor or Midwife First
Pregnancy massage isn’t suitable for everyone. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, other health conditions, or pregnancy complications, speak to your doctor or midwife first about whether it’s suitable for you. If you notice a concerning change, such as severe pain, shortness of breath or chest pain, severe pain, or unexplained bleeding, seek a medical assessment immediately.
Why Choose Rays Healing Touch
I hold a Diploma of Remedial Massage and have been providing massage services since 2008. My approach to massage combines movement-focused thinking and remedial massage with other techniques.
Qualifications and experience are only part of the puzzle. You should feel listened to, heard, and respected. I don’t take you through a rote routine; I ask you questions and listen to your answers to shape the session around your preferences, comfort, and pregnancy stage.
If you feel tired, uncomfortable, or your muscles are tense and tight, we can discuss what approach is right for you.
